Waterborne transit study will have to wait thanks to governor’s veto

Forward Pinellas, the county’s metropolitan planning organization, is waiting until next year to launch a waterborne transportation study to evaluate the effectiveness of ferries as transit after Florida Gov. Rick Scott vetoed a $1 million appropriation to pay for it.

“We don’t have enough parking on the beach, we don’t have enough road capacity,” said Whit Blanton, Forward Pinellas CEO. “We need to develop the options whether it’s transit or water taxi or something elevated.”
